Civil, human and migrant rights protection is a segment that receives much attention because of its high susceptibility to be affected. Many groups have been formed in the country to fight for them. Some of the groups are:
American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)
ACLU is an advocacy group that protects immigrant rights. It was primarily founded to expand and enforce civil liberties and rights of migrants. Moreover, ACLU fights against public and private discrimination that is directed to immigrants.
For over 25 years, ACLU has been working to protect the freedom and rights of migrants through public outreach, proceedings, and promotion.
ACLU has taken part in some significant legal battles to fight for immigrants’ rights.
In the battles, it mainly opposes challenging laws that are a barrier of immigrants from accessing substantial sectors such as mandatory confinement and the justice system among others and therefore ensures immigrants receive the same treatment as citizens.
Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA)
CHIRLA is an advocacy group fighting for immigrant families and individuals globally. Moreover, the group fights for the right for free mobility and free contribution in democratic activities. It was established after the 1986 act, the Immigration Reform and Control Act. The act ruled a law against employers from hiring undocumented employees.
It was therefore formed to protect immigrant workers against abuse. CHIRLA works hard to provide a society that enables the inclusion of all citizens including immigrants in all activities equally.
