Terrorism has been spreading like wildfire across the world, and it is also making our societies and communities much less safe than ever before.

The reports of human rights abuses across the globe have been increasing gradually, and it is one of the leading causes of concern. However, the human and civil rights violations are not only reported from the under developed countries, but many of the developed nations have been witnessing a significant surge in such violations.

The human rights foundations and organizations are trying their hard to curb such incidents where human rights are abused on a mass scale, but negligible progress is seen in that department.

In the United States, there are hundreds of organizations that are working towards making communities safer and helping the victims of civil and human rights abuses.

Some of the most famous of these groups are Lambda Legal, American Civil Liberties Union, Breakthrough, PEN Center, International Court of Justice, Center for Constitutional Rights, Human Rights First, Amnesty International USA, Washington Office of Latin America, and more.

In one of the recent events where the human and constitutional rights of two law abiding citizens were violated was when Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey, co-owners of Village Voice Media and Phoenix News Times were arrested. The arrest was made by the Maricopa County Sheriff, Joe Arpaio.

The arrest was made during the wee hours of the morning without any valid reasons. Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey fought the long legal battle that they eventually won and were awarded $3.75 million as well for the damages.

The funds they received was converted to Larkin and Lacey Frontera Fund to fight prejudice in the society and raise voice against human, civil, and migrant rights abuses.

Orange Coast College is a community institute that was established in 1947. Orange Coast College is located in Orange County, California and has an estimated size of 164 acres. The classes in the school began in 1948. Currently, the college has grown into one of the country’s finest and biggest community institutes. Moreover, each semester, Orange Coast College now registers over 25,000 students. The college features the newest in technology and has outstanding facilities. Additionally, the institute provides over 135 career and academic programs to its students including public nautical programs. Currently, nearly half the students in campus are registered in one of the institute’s Technical Education, and Career programs.

Orange Coast College offers summer, fall, spring, and winter classes and is fully authorized by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Additionally, Orange Coast College offers a two-year member of the art and science degree, and lower-division classes transferable to other universities and colleges. Besides, it also offers certificates of achievements. Due to the number of students Orange Coast College transfers to the California State University, and University of California systems, the institute ranks first among the community colleges found in Orange County. Moreover, many other students from the college transfer to private universities and colleges within California and nationally at large.

Recently, Orange Coast College was given a donation of one million dollars by Mary McChesney to help in the construction of a new planetarium. Furthermore, the Money will be used to fund the construction of a Foucault pendulum (a tool used to explain the rotation of the earth). The new planetarium will have an exhibit hall and a 129-seat auditorium.

Mary McChesney taught Spanish and English at Orange Coast College for 33 years until her retirement in 1983.Mary said that the planetarium will be a place for scientific studies for all the students in the community as well as those from the surrounding communities. She also added that although she had grown old, her love for the college was still alive. Also, Mary stated that the donation she made was to commemorate the life of her late partner, Adelyn Bonin who passed away in January. Until her retirement in 1983, Adelyn taught German and was a professor at Orange Coast College.
